JOB DESCRIPTION
A great opportunity for a highly motivated person to break into Administration and Marketing within the Performing Arts field. We are a small theatre company with a 30 year history who work with young people in South East London and would love someone to join us who could help raise our Profile within the local area and London wide. You will be supported and developed and ready to take on your first paid role as an administrator or marketing assistant by the time your apprenticeship is completed. You will be part of a small team of professionals who will help you but you must be able to work independently at times too. Strong IT skills and an interest in marketing and publicity is a must.
You will be responsible for supporting the Executive Director and Administrator in administrative, marketing, and project management tasks.
MAIN DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Supporting the Executive Director in all aspects of their work.
- Providing marketing support including contacting schools, taking bookings, communicating with press, producing and distributing publicity.
- Ensuring that all Social Media Marketing initiatives are kept upto date.
- Developing the marketing of the company in line with the company’s marketing strategy.
- Supporting the administration of the Theatre Peckham workshop programme. - This will include ensuring information is up to date, maintaining the members’ database, ensuring that fees are paid and dealing with workshop enquiries.
- Acting as an advocate for the Company at performances and high-profile partnership and networking events.
- Researching for funding applications.
- Working in partnership with other community arts organisations and theatres.
- Supporting the organisation of events and performances, including taking an active role during performances as assistant to the Front of House and Technical teams.
- Providing administrative support to the Board, including producing and distributing agendas and papers, taking minutes and organising refreshments.
- Completing all administrative work generated by the above activities and undertaking any other duties as may be reasonably required.
- - Attending fortnightly staff meetings, training sessions and other events, which may take place outside normal working hours.
Wage:
- 12 monthly payments of £416 PLUS travel expenses.
Working Week:
36 hours Monday to Friday 10.00 am to 6.00 pm
Due to the nature of this post evening and weekend work will be expected when the theatre is in use either through our own productions / events or on hires of the space. Hours will be arranged accordingly to accommodate this and TOIL given for any overtime worked.
Future prospects:
A good basic knowledge will be gained and contacts made within the theatre community of South East London. After the apprenticeship has been completed employment on a sessional basis with ourselves may be possible as well as with other local theatres and companies as contacts will be made throughout the sector.
Skills required
- - Good written and verbal communication skills.
- - Be self-motivated with the ability to handle a varied workload.
- - Be Disciplined show enthusiasm and initiative.
- - The capacity to develop organisational skills and cope in busy conditions.
- - Willingness to adapt to different work roles and to communicate with a range of people
- - IT literate (Word, Excel & Access)
- - A proven interest in theatre and community arts.

Qualifications required:
- Must be literate and numerate
have GCSE level (or equivalent)
- English grade C min
Personal qualities:
A willingness to learn and general ‘can do’ attitude with a cheerful friendly disposition will be a priority for this role rather than qualifications.

- Willing to undertake an enhanced CRB check.

This position is subject to a satisfactory enhanced criminal record bureau (CRB) check which will be paid for by the employer
This vacancy is open to 16-24 year olds who do not hold a University degree.

Must be willing to work irregular hours i.e. evenings and weekends. Prior notification will be given and organised in advance.
We are a 3 site organisation – the theatre is on Havil Street our office is in the estate opposite in Seaux Gardens. We run workshops at Peckham Academy on Saturdays and Monday evenings. You will be expected to work in all 3 locations depending on tasks. Your main base will be in the office at Seaux Gardens.
